About

A coached gymin a small town.

We opened in Denison in 2016 with a simple idea: people get better results when somebody qualified is actually watching them train.

Our approach

Movement first.
Then intensity.

We believe exercise and movement are essential pieces of the puzzle when building a healthy life. If we lose our health, every other part of life is affected.

So our goal is to teach people to move properly — so they can avoid injuries, play with their kids and grandkids, and enjoy life for as long as possible. Intensity is earned. It comes after the movement is sound, not before.

Our story

Ten years
on Coffin Street.

CrossFit Barbell Republic has been coaching Denison since April 2016. In that time 529 athletes have trained here, logging nearly 58,000 classes and more than 130,000 recorded results.

The gym is co-owned by Marshall Giasson and Dr. Dustin Bergeron, and staffed by eight coaches, seven of them credentialed by CrossFit — a depth of certification that is unusual for a gym this size anywhere, and genuinely rare in a town of 25,000.

The owners

Marshall Giasson and
Dr. Dustin Bergeron.

Marshall is head coach and runs the gym day to day. Dustin is a second-generation chiropractor at Denison Chiropractic and a certified Corrective Exercise Specialist — which is why movement quality and long-term joint health sit at the center of how this gym coaches.

Both hold the CF-L2, and both are in the classes they program. This is not a gym run from an office.

On film

The city made a film about us.

In 2022 the City of Denison featured the gym in its Denison Stories series — three minutes on how we help people reach their goals, and why we are glad to be here.

The building

One building.
Everything it needs.

Full Rogue rig, competition bumpers, ropes, rowers, bikes, and a turf strip, with plenty of open floor to work on.

Roll-up doors open onto the street when the weather is decent. It is not a chrome-and-mirrors facility and it was never trying to be.

Families, not just athletes.

Members bring their kids, their spouses, and their parents. Three of our coaches hold the CrossFit Kids credential, and nobody who walks in is too young or too old to be coached well.

Why it matters

Small-town feel, real coaching.

We believe that no matter how many members walk through the door, culture and community are what make people better athletes and better humans.
